AIVA STOROSTNIEKA, BA (Hons), is a London-based printmaker and visual artist whose work examines
abstract ideas through intuitive creating. Born in
Latvia during the Soviet era, Aiva was influenced by the stark landscapes of
socialist modernism, with traces of brutalist architecture evident in her
earlier works. Her training as an architectural technician continues to shape
her practice, lending structural elements to her art.
Aiva’s work centers on exploring underlying truths of reality and their impact on lived experience. Initially focused on the tangible, physical world, her work has evolved toward examining the role of self and mind in shaping perceptions. Known for her monochrome palette, she uses black and white to reflect the dualities she sees within the cosmos, the world, and the psyche.
Over a decade, Aiva lived in Scotland, where she collaborated with The New Earth Works and contributed to LIFE Evolved, an interactive multimedia show in Edinburgh. She later studied Painting and Printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating with First-Class Honours.
Currently, Aiva draws inspiration from symbolism, psychoanalysis, mythology, and alchemy to delve into the subconscious. Through her art, she invites viewers to embrace the unknown and look beyond the visible.
